Our Churches

St Nicholas, Broadwoodwidger

St Mary the Virgin, Kelly with Bradstone

Originally two separate parishes, the United Parish of Kelly with Bradstone worships at St. Mary’s Kelly, with the occasional service at Bradstone.

Although there is a great deal of pride in the history of our Parish Church, and the links it has with the land and people of the parish in the past, there is also a firm hope and belief in the place of the Church in the lives of the communities and families of the parish today.

The Church building is a wonderful place to visit with some fascinating history and a warm welcoming atmosphere in our worship.

Currently, our worship is suspended and we join with the Online offering from the Lifton Benefice.

We do hope that soon we will be able to return to worship in the church and invite you to join us.

St Peter, Lewtrenchard

St Peter’s is a small but thriving Grade 1 listed church with an enthusiastic congregation set in the picturesque hamlet of Lewtrenchard including the award-winning Lewtrenchard Manor and the Forgotten Garden of Lewtrenchard. We have many historical links not least with the Reverend Sabine Baring-Gould, a former vicar from 1881-1924 who wrote Onward Christian Soldiers and is buried in our churchyard. At the end of our services we have our own take on refreshments known around the benefice as ‘Lewtrenchard Coffee’. We look forward to welcoming you!

St Mary the Virgin, Lifton

St John the Baptist, Stowford

Stowford Parish

Stowford Parish Stowford is a very small rural village with a population of less than 100, on the Devon side of the River Tamar. Stowford has a reputation for an open, welcoming atmosphere; Sunday Eucharists and social gatherings. The wider parish of Stowford has a population of about 300 with an active community supporting a wide range of village events. Events such as the Arts and Crafts fair help bring together the community and raise much needed additional funds.

The neighbouring village of Lewdown has a Church of England primary school, a pub (The Blue Lion) and a shop/Post Office. 3 miles to the West is the larger village of Lifton, where St.Mary’s( the largest church in the mission community) is located. In Lifton we have Strawberry Fields, a renowned farm shop and restaurant.

We are about a fifteen minute drive from Okehampton and Launceston, 2 miles from the new A30, and 35 miles from Exeter.

Stowford Church

The Church worships in our beautiful Grade 1 Listed 14th century church , and has a loyal and hard-working congregation who take an active role in services. There is a very beautiful and fully restored organ. There is a good and vibrant group of bell-ringers across our mission community, and we enjoy the choir from Lifton, who join us for Mission Community Eucharists.

We have an experienced PCC, Deanery Synod rep, organists and flower arrangers.

Our Christingle service on Christmas Eve is the highlight of our year, involving many children from the parish and beyond. It has had a large following for many years, and raises money for the Children’s Society.

Stowford Parish Hall

We enjoy the use of a Parish Hall where, for instance, we held a supper following the Confirmation service in the Autumn of last year. After the hiatus in community life due to Covid, we are looking forward with our sister churches to a full programme of liturgical and social events.

The hall also hosts community events such as a monthly Community Coffee morning (first Tuesday of the month 10am-12mid-day). The hall is adjacent to the church and can seat 80 people. It has a recently refurbished kitchen and toilet facilities and has been newly decorated and is available for hire.

It is also the location for the newly purchased Community Defibrillator.
